Makoto Kiln Japanese Tea Cup

THE PRODUCT
A lovely small handmade tea cup with a diameter of 65 mm and 80 mm height.

THE MATERIAL
This cup is created with 10% Kajiki clay mixed with a white Shigaraki clay to create a beautiful earthy color combined with a soft blue glaze. Kajiki clay can only be found in the Kajiki region in the center of Kagoshima prefecture. Kajiki clay is rich in iron and has a high shrinkage percentage. So it is impossible to work with a pure Kajiki clay to create ceramics. Through trial and error, this maker finally succeeded to blend the Kajiki clay with a white and a red Shigaraki clay.

THE MAKER
Mariko Harada is the sweetest potter in Kagoshima Japan. She works with Kajiki clay that can only be found in the Kajiki region in the center of Kagoshima prefecture. Mariko has created the 1015 serie in 2017. The 10% products are a mix of 10% Kajiki with white Shigaraki clay and the 15% items are mixed with a red Shigaraki clay. Both have a wonderful earthy color. We will add more items of Mariko to our collection in a later stage.
