THE PRODUCT
The outward facing, tapered legs on these chairs mean that they stack vertically when they are not in use, combining versatility and style. The curved horizontal seat back not only looks good but also provides a supportive sit, combined with the moulded sturdy elm seat. A feature of this dining chair is the classic Windsor wedge joint, where the leg of the chair goes right through the seat; a wedge is then inserted into a cut in the leg, forming a remarkably strong joint. Sanded off flush with the seat, the joint then provides a beautiful design element. First launched in 1957, the stacking chair is as fresh today as it was then.W 49cm D 52cm H 89cm SH 45cm
PLEASE NOTE; If you would like to have a naturel wooden finish there are two finishes available. Choise the LM finish if you prefer a more classical satin finish that emphasizes the natural color difference between the Elm seat and Beech legs and Beech back. If you prefer a matt light finish you should choice the DM finish.

THE MAKER
Lucian R Ercolani, or the "Old Man" as he is affectionately know in the company, founded ercol in 1920. Born in Italy in 1888, Lucian's family moved to London in the 1890s. There he went to night school at the Shoreditch Technical Institute where he studied drawing, design and the theory and construction of furniture. In 1907 he made his first piece of furniture - a musical cabinet, inlaid with mother of pearl. Years later the company tracked this down and we still have it to this day.Between 1910 to 1920, The Old Man worked in the design teams for what would later become Parker Knoll and G-Plan, before founding ercol in 1920. He designed the company's products for many years. The Windsor range remains one of the most popular ranges over half a century after it was first launched in its original guise, whilst a few years ago ercol reintroduced some of Lucian's classic designs, which now form the ercol Originals.
