THE MAKER

Skagerak is a Danish design company with roots deeply grounded in Scandinavian design and tradition for good craftsmanship. We are owned by Jesper and Vibeke Panduro, who live with their two children in the Northern harbour city of Aalborg. This is where Skagerak was founded too, back in 1976, when the first dreams of making long-lasting design took form.

Skagerak [ˈsɡæjɐʁaɡ] can be a little hard to pronounce; so allow us to explain what it means. From the northern tip of Denmark runs a strait connecting our little country with our Scandinavian neighbors: Sweden and Norway. That strait is called Skagerrak (with two Rs) – and historically it’s been a crucial factor in developing the Nordic region.

TAKING CARE OF THIS PRODUCT

Oiled Teak

Origin
Teak is commonly found in Southeast Asia and Central and South America. Our FSC-certified Teak comes from Southeast Asia, Central America and Brazil, while our non-certified Teak comes from plantations in Indonesia and Trinidad; managed to sustain a renewable and reliable supply of wood.

Why
Teak is a heavy, hard and sturdy type of wood. The high content of natural oils makes it highly resistant and it is therefore a good choice for all kinds of household articles.

Cleaning
Clean with soapy water and a soft brush right after usage. Be aware that the product is not dishwasher safe.

Oil treatment
The teak has been treated with food safe oil to improve its resistance. Therefore, we recommend that you treat the wood at regular intervals with an oil – e.g. worktop oil – to preserve the glow and resistance. If the product is not oiled continuously, the surface may change colour over time and become silvery grey.

And brass:

Why

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, popular for its superb malleability, hardness, corrosion resistance and attractive appearance.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Brass will tarnish over time, especially if it is not kept dry. Find a suitable brass polish and clean the brass carefully without staining other materials.

Note
Since brass can be quite susceptible to tarnish, small spots might already have occurred on the product when unpacking. These can easily be polished off.
